Joe Frey

I worked for the devil on commission until a little over 20 years ago. When I finally let go of the rope pulling me into trouble, I started to change. Following Christ has made all the difference in my life. All through my life God sent Godly men to witness to me. They were spaced far enough apart for the gentle periodic tugging to turn my hell bound boat around. For me it was a slow process.

There is a term used in cooking to describe the highest boiling you can get: a "rolling boil". Low to medium boils can be stirred and the liquid will cool and calm down. A rolling boil is one in which the boiling can't be calmed down no matter how much stirring goes in. I had let temptation get to that rolling boil state in my life and no matter how much trouble and pain was stirred in; I kept on going the way I was going. Finally, a pain motivated change was unavoidable. Operating daily with self-inflicted drama and pain is not really living. By turning and following Christ's teachings that I found in the Bible and in the many good Christians in my life, I learned how to live. When temptation starts to simmer, take it off the stove.

I am blessed with a great family and good Christian friends. No turning back, no turning back.

Listed below are three passages that have meant a great deal to me in my walk with Christ.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith

Philippians 3: 13-14 (NIV)

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
